Wanting to make a list to beat necrons and demons

So back from the Caledonian war weekend, I want to start my Greek marines after so many years,
and I also want to build a metagame marine list, capable of dealing with necrons and demons.

I have been trying to think of which combination of marines is best.

Lets have a look at the enemy.
2-3 units of wraiths
3-4 battle barges
4 flyers
1-2 destroyer lords
warriors immortals.

 I made 2 lists one is Dark angels grey knights the other pure grey knights.

I still have 134 points  left in this list.

The 2 librarians take divination trying to get the malediction that forces rerolling succesful saves.
they then enter the devastator units making them twinlinked when shooting with divinations primary spell.
 The scouts are objective holders they should stay out of sight if possible.
the 10 marines might take a heavy weapon or split into 2 units with  a heavy weapon
Vindicare assasin can soften up the battle barges, against deamons the best she can do is force an overwatch from flammers for some squad to follow up and assault.

Against flyers
I have the quad gun
2 twin linked devastator units and a twin linked riffle dread.

Against Demons the strike and interceptor squad split and cast warp quake if I go first.

I choose the brother hood champion cause of his price and his heroic sacrifice, making him a good counter against monster HQs, I don't know if his defensive stance affects mindshakle scarabs though.

This list I like more. It has less high power weapons and no aegis and 1 less librarian, but it also does not waste points on tactical and scouts.
30 grey knight strike squad, 60 24" str 5 shots.
and 2 units of intercetors  18 bodies thats another 36 shots str 5 at 24"

so this list has bodies it has great mid fire power, but what about vehicles and flyers?

The riffle dreads are great for that roll they can even glance a LR. but such targets belong to the vindicare assassin.  The necron flyers I can try and wound with the strike squads.
Only the 2 riffle dreads can wound a helldrake or a stormraven. But those are not my primary targets.

I will be giving the second list a go this week.

Caledonian wars weekend report

Good morning readers,
I attended my first 40k tournament this year, Caledonian Wars, 80+ players  of which 15 were necrons and 10 were space marines.
I went with Andy(necrons), Steve(Demons) and Bruno (blood angels).
I finished 54th with 2 wins and 3 losses.
Andy had 4 big wins and played last game table 1 for the win, unfortunately he did not make it but still finished in the top 9. Still a bloddy good performance and always consistent.
Bruno got nominated for best painted and came in that second, there were 3 imperial fist armies nominated- judges must like yellow.

I took my fire hawks, untested for 6th edition. I put together what i fancied playing and had mostly painted, and still did not finish painting the pod or the landraiders.

Game 1 was against demons, 3*9 flammers, 3*9 screamers and 6*6 plaguebearers, and we were playing the scourging. Which was probably the worst scenario I could have in this list.

I took a corner and put on the perimeter the terminators.
I was lucky enough to roll the -1 to his reserves warlord trait.
I won the roll and asked him to play first, he but flamers and screamers in one unit and plaguebearers.
 in another. he chose flammers unit but rolled a 2. So plague bearers came in. You would think that is a blessing but turn 2 all 6 of his units came in on a +4.
turn 1 I stayed in my formation

his flammers shot my scouts I made 5 saves, but lost 2 in flame range.
then 9 screamers slashed for 10 wounds all dead.
the other 2 screamers killed a terminator in each unit, and the other flammers killed my dread.

my turn 2 terminators go into combat with the 2 units of screamers,
 null zone fails, my drop pod marines kill like 3-4 flammers.

his turn 3 rhino and 2 units of marine die.

turn 4 with 5 flamers he does 4 glancing hits to my one land raider and with his other 4 flammers he does another 4 glancing hits, at that point i had a pod my librarian and 1 terminator I conceded.

That was an awful first game that I wanted to put behind me, outnumbered by 2 wound models. Worst match up while the opponent does not know that dice also have a 1,2,3 side on them. He was still a good chap and not cocky.

After that it was lunch and display your armies, I took a few pictures.

Game 2,
Well with 0 points I was hopping for an easier game, so I play against necrons.
There seemed to be one common list among all necron players 3 units of wraiths, 4 flyers 3-4 battle barges and 1-2 destroyer lords with mindshakle scarabs. This one  had 2 arks and scarabs instead of 2 flyers.

My opponent just moved his wraiths forward so I shot and charged them turn 2 with null zone in effect. Then they smashed some battle barges.

At the end of the game he had the relic and I had 1 objective line breaker first blood and slay the warlord.

No more pictures after that my phone died.

Game 3 was vs necrons, same stuff I lost 19-1.  The ironclad was disappointing once again with flammer, melta , close combat and after reanimation protocols no immortals were lost.

After diner we went to our hotel room I was with Bruno so we decided to play a game, we decided anvil and hammer cause of the space and  relic mission. zero terrain except for Brunos defense line.

we rolled for mission: Relic.

fun game, turn one drop pod marines capture the relic, sniper kills a terminator.

He moves forward makes some shoots nothing special appart form killing 5-6 marines in the relic unit.

my turn 2 I assault his terminators and mephisto, he is left with 3-4 terminators and falls back while mephisto is on one wound. Iron clad assaults and kills some devastators relic moves into the land raider.

Brunos turn 3 2 units of   assault marines with 2 meltas each deep strike and blow the land raider, gate of infinity allows his lib and termies to bypass my terminator wall. Mephisto assaults my marines , snapshot a meltagun to his face and he dies.

 turn 4 my marines enter the rhino -he blows the rhino up.
up to there everything he has is almost dead.

Day 2
 I play against grey knights ,
Razorback heavy bolter spam with 3 riffle dreads.
Turn one I get first blood with dread vs razorback.
Turn 2 I avoid been assaulted by the terminators with combat tactics so I can shoot them and assault them with 2 units of terminators and null zone.
I think my opponent lost interest quite fast after that and spent some time text-ing during the game, turn 5 he conceded.

Last game and probably the nicest player and list I played against and I lost.
He was playing sisters with imperial gun (anvil & big guns)
He had selestine  2 unis of sisters 3 exorsists and jacob in a 50 strong unit of IG, Straken
and hydra 4 chimeras I think. once again dread failed to damage the sisters, Straken turned it into a can in 2 turns.
My biggest mistake was charging the massive blob with only one unit of terminators and marines, I should have committed the second unit of terminators too that and my super ability to roll 1 and 2s.

and Celestine got up twice.

In the end all terminators and librarian died another unit of marines assaulted them (they were about 10 now)
we both had one objective but he had first blood line breaker and slay the warlord.
Most original list I played.

It was a great weekend, got to play 40k hang out with some friends, eat breathe and talk about the hobby. A competitive eye opener.

I don't think I deserve any better for the amount of preparation I did. Writing a  list in 3 hours using an army I played maybe two 6th edition games with. I thought 2 LR were viable but the 2 top lists have many ways of dealing with them.

Future Plans.

2 new, new year resolutions:
I think I complain a lot about how overpowered the demon and necron codex is. Too much, and I don't want to be the whiny bitch, the codexes are what they are.They are overpoered that why they are chosen by the good players and you see them in large numbers, out of 15 codexes 1 in 8 were a necron player. But that is life, so 1)Try to never complain about a codex again.

2) Try to not complain about dice rolls or bad luck.
 Some times I can hold my disappointment some times not.

When you roll reserves 6 units  on a +4 up, I expect 3 +-1  units to  come in , not all.

when you roll 9 flammers I expect 5+- hits not 8.

I had 2 opponents apologize for their luck.

Hobby plans, finish the nurgle temple  and start the greek marines. 
Make a list to beat Necrons and deamons.

Scouts and Hyperion almost done

Hello readers,

what the title says:

The defence batteries were made with the following bits, from top to bottom:
Scope from land raider crusader
2 drop pod missile launchers
havoc missile launcher axis
Land raider small lid
drop pod engine part
the legs are cut out bits from the drop pod
and finaly 4 20mm bases.

The scouts need basing and the launchers elf flesh highlighting.
after that I have got to do some details on the LR and build and paint the  lucius drop pod.

I have also made a hobby  plan up until April.
 End of January finish the nurgle landing pad
1) Buid and paint 9 greek marines, powersword & stormbolter.

2) Build a 4 by 6 modular board, many thanks to Bruno for showing me this tutorial http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/6397-how-to-make-modular-terrain
3) Maybe start the typhous zombie list.

I have also asked Andy from  http://sanguinesons.blogspot.co.uk/ to help me with a list for my greek space marine army. I usally write my own list but this time I want to see his ideas and thoughts.

Raptor Scouts & Fire Hawks Hyperion battery.

Hello readers,
I always feel cheap when I post without any actual photos work to show. You know, like  all talk no action kind of thing, well sorry this is one of these posts.
This weekend I plan to paint my 5 camo scouts and the 2 hyperrion batteries. So you could say its a bit of an oath motivational post.

I found this amazing piece of artwork:

I will do them with a camo patern, but it will be urban.

But I realy like the painted face I will try and immitate that. It will be 4 colours basecoat white, first layer dark grey with some green, second layer light grey with some green and finaly black.
Unfortunatly I could not find any inspiring city camo scouts on the net.
Following is some tracks for my painting sessions.

I will also try to paint my 2 hyperion defence batterries, yesterday I created a platform and last night I made a mold for it. Red-orange-yellow with flames it will be.

Hopefully my next post will be with some painted miniatures.

After that is the nurgel temple ending January.
After that will be 9 Greek marines and some nurgle stuff until April.

P.S. did you know that in the new dark angel codex 10 tactical marines are 40-50 points cheaper than the vanila ones, its even worse for devastators. I might even po in to gw to have a read tomorrow.

Kill team round 2.

Hello readers. I bought my ticket for the second kill team event, but this time I am not alone, I am going with my brother, we used to go to magic the gathering tournamets together and this will be his first wargame table top event, I also need to teach him 40k. It going to be fun, he has his eye on chaos.

 I myself am seriously getting my game on and making 9 greek marines.

Tickets for Aprils kill team and 40k doubles are on sale today.

Constructing a nurgle landing pad part 1.

Good morning,
 I got some hobby on during the holidays and I decided to make a nurgle theme vertion of the games workshop landing pad.

 I wanted it to look like a temple then a hi tech piece of scenery, below is a scetch I made

To make the floor I will use plaster, its cheap breaks up easy and gives a lovely random texture.
so I mix water and plaster and let it dry for a day
Next I am going to start the armarture for the supporting column, its going to be 4 giant nurgle hands holding the pad up.
I cut a long piece of wire, bend in half, hold the edges with some twisers and trist the other side with a paint brush.
I pinned the wire on a piece of resin sprue and shaped it to look like a hand,  it will only have 4 fingers (nurgle style)

Next I use some tinfoil to bulk up the armature, its a cheap way of building mass instead of using clay or putty.

I cover it with super sculptey, I just want a base to work with details will come later.
I stick it in the oven for 15 minutes to harden.
Next I am going to cut out the pads shape, about 11,5" square.

I cut the edges of too
and then glue this 2 step shaped plasticard on the edges.

By then the hand is cooked.
I cut with my dremmel some plastic pipes, to shape the nurgle circles

Toss the dry plaster in a box
and very patiently cut and glue (pva) each tile in.
this took alot of hours... so to not go crazy I work on the hand again
pinned some wire for the upper piece of the fingers and thumb.
Back to the pad, I tried to cut out 3 pointers but the plaster broke, so I added some milliput and shaped the pointers.

I fill in the gaps with milliput.
Cause the metal rim (plasticard) is too smoth I attack it with my dremel

That completes the pad, now I am going to cast it. I make a box for it. Usualy I use lego but for this size project I used wood. The cylinders in the corners are there to reduse the use of silicon rubber.
once I get the shape right I glue the pad in.
Silicone rubber is poured and in
I knew before hand the plaster will stick to the rubber and thats ok.

I clean up the mold as much as I can after a few casts the plaster will be removed.
First cast you can see the plaster joining the resin.
I continue with the hand, mote tinfoil

and more super sculptey, some people freaked out when I showed this to them, said it looks like a baby hand. tinfoil the wrist. Also you can see at the back the second cast has almost no plaster in it.
