Blog wars 4 analysis: Steve's Demons.

I will analyze a couple of army lists I saw the past weekend, one at a time.

I played last week a game with Steve's demons and won, maybe cause his force came in the wrong order.
We played again at blog wars and I got tabled. His demons showed up this time in right order and my epidemius came in turn 4.
Even after our first game I was still pretty amazed how strong his list was, it does not win any originality award and utilizes on the best units with multiples of them. But it is a very strong list.

Steves demons were something like this:

    * Bloodthirster
    * Fateweaver, Oracle of Tzeentch Elites

        4x Flamer of Tzeentch
        4x Flamer of Tzeentch
        4x Flamer of Tzeentch

       5x Pink Horror
        5x Pink Horror

   5x Plaguebearers of Nurgle
 5x Plaguebearers of Nurgle
 3x Screamer of Tzeentch

Daemon Prince of Chaos wings breath
Daemon Prince of Chaos wings breath
Daemon Prince of Chaos wings breath

I realy like the list, yes it repetitive but still bloody cool and strong. The list has 16 no cover , no armour on a 4 you die flammer templates, they can kill terminators, scores of orks or land raiders with the same ease, it can be unstable if you mishap or get the wrong force in.
The best part for the demon princes is that they can deep strike into flying mode, so you can not assault them or shoot them down easily, this has put me in thought about my own list.
The majority of models have a 5+ inv which is rerollable if close to fateweaver,
So the army deals loads of pain during the shooting phase but what about combat, the 4d3 wound on +4 no armour save makes you rethink charging the flammers, my best result was charging them with the leftover 2 marines from a unit and then charge with a whole other unit, in combat they are no monters but with 2 wounds and a inv save they will hold you up. The screamers have 3 attacks ap3.

I was really thinking of making this list after my first game with Steve,
but maybe lose the screamers and plaguebearers for a mono god list which might not be as good.
I decided though that having 4 armies on queue was bad enough.

But if I did do an army like this I would  use very little from the demon range.
It would be a ghost thousand son army.

the flamers would be thousand sons with heavy flamer, a bit like legion of the damned
+

The demon princes would be wingless ogre size Sorcerers on disks holding  flaming staffs (turquoise.flames)

+

I suppose I would use horrors as horrors and screamers as screamers. Hopefully that would not confuse my opponents. Any thoughts about the list?

Blog wars 4 Best painted army and other nice miniatures.

Best painted army of blog wars went to a lovely Squat imperial guard army the proud owner writes at clawsandfists blog.

A well deserved award (it had my vote).

There were other nice armies too, here are some pictures I took.
A custodian army it had my vote for best character.

Andy's necrons

Michael's necrons.

Bellow is gregs flyer I played against last game though his army had many diferent colours which broke the army coherency, I was amazed by his flyer,so so nice, if he ever paints the rest of his army to that standard he will be a very strong contender for best painted army in future tournaments.

Good stuff.

Blog wars 4 the aftermath.

Hello readers,

Blog wars 4 is over,
But were should I start from?
I think I will start with Alex from the Fang for organising it, Alex thank you for one of the nicest tournaments I have been too. Loads of prizes, loads of info before hand about the event, always helpful and came around each table couple of times during each game to see if everything is OK.

The Venue was  maelstrom, it was my first time there, spacious with good food and a pub inside I think it ticked all the boxes, I don't know if the store venue will be ok with online maelstrom going bankrupt but sure hope it will cause its a nice place to be. The store was nice too no gw stock but I got some airbrush paints and army painter quickshade.

My three opponents were all very nice, big thanks to Michael, Steve and Greg.

I also personaly forfilled my 2 targets, I was hopping for 2 wins and a loss and that is what I achieved.

I won in round one Michels necrons

He had the storm caller, 4 flyers and 2 large units of necrons for a 5 objective game.

I then lost the relic mission against Steve my mate from Cambridge who played Demons (we played last wednesday and  I was actually really impressed with his list which I was going to discuss on another post anyway)
He beat me with the demon prince I gave him for the tournament.

Last game was against Greg, he played Dark eldar aegis defence line, loads of jetbikes and poson shooting.
I won by 4 kill points but it was close until the end.

I dont like to bitch about my luck and the reason I lost but it really felt that on saturday the gods of dice were going to have loads of  fun on my expence. More about that on another post.

So two wins one loss -achieved.

My other target one was for epidemius to win best painted character,

Achieved. :-)

Also my bikes were liked by many, which gives me a felling of pride.
Also I completed my pledge (see thumb out of bum post) completing the army. Not fully painted to its potential but everything, created and painted 5 colours +.
So all in all every thing about the event was great and all personal goals were achieved, also a big thanks to
Andy and Steve for some play testing and for the drive up there. The Sons of Sanguinius won nine out of nine games they must be doing something right.
More pictures, best painted army and others, battle reports, thoughts, looking at lists on the following posts. There will be  a couple today.
