Display Board for Armies Parade and Space Marine game.
Hello All,
After alot of work the display board is nearly done, I presented it to the cambridge store and won the army parade badge

So in less than 2 weeks I am taking it to Games Day, having seen some board online, I am confidant for my entry, soon I will now.I need to repaint the portal add some vines and I also want to add the new saurus oldblood.
Space Marine the game.
I am not known to jump at every thing gw makes and releases, (eg. the movie ultramarines was full of flaws and simply badly writen and made) but this game released from relic is amaging.
If you have not yet lost sleep over it the at least try the demo, its available for all consoles.
The missions in the single player are intresting, fun and true to 40k muth.
Space marines are super human beings, and what better way to show that putting them next to guardsmen.
Which guardsmen stand up when they see you and address you as lord.It ads a good genuine feeling to the importance and power of the space marine. 3 ultramarines accomplish more the thousands of IG.
Story is awesome, capaign is awesome, multiplayer is awesome, shooting is awesome, combat is awesome, orks are awesome, everything is awesome. Try the demo.
If anyone did not like it, or not like something please post bellow, I am curious.
I heard that one magazines only complaint in their review is that they say the word "space marine" too often.
for me the only flawis that later in the game you can find power axes and thunder hamers layed inside crates.
I would also like in the multiplayer when you get a kill your marine gets to say something 40k. "die heretic" "for the emperor" "go back to the warp fallen one" " my shield is my faith" "death to the false emperor" "for Chaos" " fail like your falen god" "witnwess the try powers" and the list goes on.

Grey knights / Army parade Display board /exorsists.
Hello all,
I thought I should show some signs of life. I have been realy busy building a temple for my Lizardmen for armies parade.
First though my weekend experiment: A while ago I bought 10 grey knight termies, a dreadknight and a LR second hand.
I wanted to try this crome paint I got at a miniature convention.
So this past weekend i got busy.

Exorsists
I played a game vs gray knights and a second look through the units again and please allow me to re-emphasize on the obvious: OMG HOW good are the plain marine grey knights?! 20p for a scoring unit with a nemesis power weapon and a storm bolter? dont forget the -1 to psyc. powers against them, a psyc power(I think) and prefered enemy: deamons, now compare that to the 18p marine.
Now I have not fully looked at all the variation of the grey knight marine. But what i see is really underpriced comparing to vanila marines. I am seriously considering to make a 1750 exorsist force based upon the grey knight, there is alot of talk about the exorsists been a chapter coming from the grey knights. I think some inquisition units would fit nicely with them. It will be challenging to get the runes onto the armor, I am thinkin of custom transfer sheets.
So maybe after I finish my board, then deamons (only need to do 8 bloodletters and 4 bloodcrushers) and the grey knights I might do an exorsist force.
What do you think, anyone out there got a good list for 1750? no terminators or dredknighs, only marines, inquisitor stuff yes, LR yes up to 2.

Reviewing the Raptors
GWpertinent is having a Crusade week and on Thursday it was raptor legion so I decided to make a small review of my raptor force.
So here it goes:
Reason for picking raptors
When I was running the badab war campaign people would ask me "what chapter should i pick? I want something easy." I would reply with "raptors", monocromatic armor and dirty look is realy easy. No matter how many people i sujested it to no one actually took the challange. So I wanted to show people that my money was were my mouth was. (is that the right expretion?)
Playing the scenario massacre at bellaphones fall (which I found the hardest mission for the defending player,you need in the mission to keep your 3 hq's alive/buildings are dangerous terrain), I lost alot of games.
I could have come up with really unfluffy ideas like:
1)Take Tygerious and deep strike your characters and reroll when the succefully enter to keep them in orbit longer.
2)Play 30 terminators with storm shield.
3)Take the the minotaur, salamander and ultramarine special characters with eternal warrior.
Instead I had a look at the special characters, Elam courbay of the Fire hawks would do me no good making assault marines into scoring units. Then I read Lias Issodon of the raptors 140 points I think for a Chapter master that changes combat tactics to stealth. His pros was the universal stealth, his power sword, 3 wounds,cheap cost and special ammunition in a big sniper riffle (I love snippers, in CS I would always try to snipe). His cons where no orbital bombartment and no iron halo.
He also gets to sabbotage a unit at the begginig of the game glanse roll on a vehicle or d6 ap- wounds on a unit. Usally it would go against a ball or land raider.
ALso raptors are the exact opposite of the Fire Hawks, where Fire Hawks apear in their red orrange yellow armor with guns blazzing, Raptors choose to use camo to their advantage and try to remain unseen. What better way to distract the enemy than a loud red orange yellow distraction in the front to their ranks while you sneak up from the back?
I imagined in the senario the small force of raptors pass through the enemy lines to warn the Fire hawks of their inpending doom surrounding them in a death trap.
I also added a master of the forge that fortified my central ruin givving my hq and 2 devastator units a +2 cover save. While I used 3 tactial units, their rhinos, and 10 terminators as a perimeter.
So the bottom line is I added raptors to my army cause i wanted to prove a point, they were useful and were a pleasend break from orange yellow armor.
Selection of units for my force
I made my raptors by looking at what my list needed, a tactical with rhino, devastators and Lias issodon him self.
Creating the force
In the badab war book they had a very basic armor, no fancy artwork or etchings upon their armor. No chapter marks or ranks, I know from real military in time of war you remove isignia and marks so you dont make your self a target, makes it harder for the enemy to count you and track you and harder for them to know who died from where. No marks no purity seals, (except those already on the armor , some where trimmed of). I used were I could the studded shoulder pads to avoid having a gap on the one shoulder pad, on the other a black sumbol to the chapter was attached.
Lias was heavily converted, giving him a big ass gun.


Painting the raptors
Painting the raptors was dead easy as I had advised others, I painted 15 marines in 1 day to the standar you will see in the final pictures.
First I undercoaded them black.
Then I airbrushed them with Tamiya dark green.
Then I airbrushed them with Tamiya flat green getting only the higher areas and mainly above the torso.
Then I darkened the feet with dark green and black.
At this point they looked like this.


After this stage green thraka was washed all over the models without leaving pools of wash.
When dry I did the details, like eyes guns and the shoulder pad edges and eagles with codex gray.
then washed mettalic and grey parts with badab black wash (badab war chapter getting washed with badab black, get the joke? oh never mind)
After that was dry I applied the pigments from the mix section randomly and what ever felt right , i used black some tones of grey and white. White especialy went heavy into the raptors, I imagine that while shooting in some building a roof or wall colapses or gets blown next to them.

Same prosedure whent into the rhino with some fast higlighting.
The end result...





just for the record Lias and my plan worked in the badab war campaign my opponent was impressed with my +2 cover save against his plasma cannons and vindicator.

1st place in the forgeworld Badab War Weekend. Fire Hawks prevail!
If you have been following this blog you will have read about me babbling about the Badab war campaign that took place the weekend that just passed. It was great fun, great atmosphere (at least my games) and I was happy to see alot of players took the effort to dig out their old badab war chapter marines or create new ones.
I managed to finish first with 4 wins and 1 draw. Claiming the title of "Emperors Champion" :-P

Luck always is necessary but I also prepared my list depending on the scenario and brought with me 3500p (5HQ in there). Were others had a 2500 point list and took things out for the other lower point games, I felled different units to help my game. Luck and preparation gave me first place, a lot of luck.
If i am not mistaken there were 60 players 30 on each side, present were:
Salamandres, Sons of medusa, 2 Mantis warriors, astral claws (marines), 2 astral claws (FW list which is a mix of IG and marines), 2 or 3 charcharadons, Minotaurs, Red scorpions, Lamenters, 3 Dark angels, blood angels, 3 ultramarines and about 5 grey knights and many more which I cant remember. No space wolfs, maybe badab sector was too far for thunderwolfs to ride.
Lucky factor #1 I hoped I would not play against grey knights and i did not. Well I did in the last game which was apocalypse but then my team mate had a grey knight army. They are just lethal and shoot and combat on a totally different level.

The funny thing is I went wanting to get nominated for best painted , (which I did not make it) and ended up winning the tournament.. They told me it was because some of my vehicles were unfinished, and I agree they were right, I should have not put out my half painted vehicles on display and still be showing 3000p.


I will do a review of my games.
Game 1 vs Rishard and his dark angels.
This is the game I had prepered for because I knew it was the worst game for the loyalist. I get 3 hq, and set up in the middle if they live I score points if they die my opponent does, the player with the most kill points scores a point.
My list was
2500 points
My opponent had Azzrael
10 deathwing termies
2 tactical marine units of 10
2 assault marine units of 10
10 devastators with 2 plasma cannons and 2 lasscannons
predator
vindicator
librarian
3 bikes.
Lias sabotazed the vindicator making it immobilized.
The master of the forge bolstered the defenses of the center piece of the ruins and with lias changing the combat tactics to stealth, my 2 devastator units inside the ruins had a 2+ cover save. lias and the master of the forge joined a devastator unit each. my librarian was in orbit with 8 sternguard. on one side spread out were 10 terminators on the other side 3 rhinos on my edges and a dreadnought. I play second.
turn one 1 lose 2 rhinos and 2 tacticals,
my turn stenguard come in and shoot done 5 terminators while my terminators reach his assault squad and ruin them. my tactical left takes down the vindicator. unfortunatly his 4 terminators and Azzrael reach Lias and cut him down. next turn though they will die from terminators and ironclad.
Later on all my sternguard die and the librarian is on his one nowere to hide from 2 lasscanons and a plasma cannon, so i decided to do gate of infinity on a clear area away from the range of his weapons. but I roll scater and double 3s and he gets sucked into the warp. I think I played that wrong. I should have moved and run and taken my chances Any way master of the forge lives and I score more killpoints so its a draw.
Game 2 vs Steve and his Ig astral claws
my list for this game was
Steve had lots of ig, 2 units in chimeras with 2 brutes, 2 vendetas, 8 tanks? and 3 automated lascannons and 3 automated heavy bolter bs 2 twin linked, command squad 2 weapon teams.
I deploy all in one side (avoiding the side with the automated weapons ansd 5 tanks) sweap in and move to the middle scorring 12 kill ponts and slaying his hq with mine.


Game 3 seemed to be the hardest.
They have to put 3 rhinos/razorbacks in my deployment zone (12" from the board to win)
my opponent had mechanized lamenters. Well thought list, I liked it, he had 2 rhinos, 1 razor back, 2 ball, 1 vindicator, 1 predators, 1 land raider. That’s 8 vehicles.
And I think this was my weakest list. I would definitely rebuild this. Also in this scenario secessionists have 500p more than loyalists.
my list
my deployment is: across the board: rhino dread lr iron clad devastators rhino
he decides to put them all on one side.
He also had a librarian in the land raider giving the vehicles +5 cover. Combined with his fast vehicles" move 12, shoot, then I need 6's to hit. We both rolled allot of 1s for armour penetration. I thought I rolled more1's. he disagreed. I disagreed that he rolled more 1's. Any way turn 2 my troop’s melta gun the 1 rhino to pieces while the other one gets blown up by a hunter killer missle. On his turn he decided to tank shock me with the third rhino and i blow it up. (i think that was a mistake, he should have stayed put and assaulted with his marines from the LR. which he did the next turn and slaughtered me.) I also did a mistake I should have probably ran with my devastators but instead I took a shoot at the side of the vindicator but failed again.
Next turn he puts the vehicles on the other side which was another mistake. Because I have my dread on that side and my rhino in the middle of the table while he had nothing.
Vindicator and predator were shooting at my rhino and dread while they were shooting at the rhinos.
Turn 5 I need to blow up 1 rhino to stop him from winning ( he could not blow up 3 vehicles even with 7 turns). multimelta penetrates and I get weapon destroyed!!!! the melta gun from the tactical fails! i charge the vehicle with the tactical and the dread 6s to hit the dread fails but the sergeant gets a hid and wreaks it. At that point my opponent conseded. We both forgot that he could simply try wipe me out. if we continued the game might have ended right after or the next turn on a 4 up. I had left 2 rhinos ( 1 would get assaulted and destroyed for sure from his tactical) 1 dreadnought 2 tactical marines left. We both did not think of that we ended it 2-1 objectives to me. hardest and most nerve racking game.
Lucky factor #2 been able to destroy a razzorback with a sergeant.
Game 4 was against mantis warriors
I was saying this was the easiest scenario for the loyalist. 2000p planet strike I need to blow up 3 teleporting pads armour 12. My opponent had 250p less than me. he had 2 LR 1 predator 2 dreadnaughts with auto canons, 2 tactical 5 terminators and a devastator squad.
My dream came true i get to play a game were death comes from above
in planet strike units that can deep strike normally can deep strike and assault.
also infantry that does not nomaly deep strike get to but cant assault.

Having my worst luck on my easiest mission. Had this been any other game I would have lost.
Firestorm scaters.
5 terminators mishap and die
The vanguard mishap and go back in orbit.
Captain with 4 attacks auto hit needs 5 to penetrate fails or when he does he cant blow it up.
at least i took out the 2 lr turn 1.
Turn 2 see if the other terminators show up I need a roll of +2. I roll 1. I get to reroll because of the Damocles Rhino . 1 again.
Turn 3 I manage to blow up 2 pads and my terminators come in automatically but scatter on the building but this time with Damocles Rhino in game I can reroll the scatter they are ok and they assault the dreadnaught.
Turn 4 my opponent conceded. Oh while I have problems blowing up pads with hammers melta guns melta bombs my opponent manages to blow up my ironclad needing a 6 to penetrate and then rolls another 6. Good game though my bad luck made this massacre into a game. Elsewhere someone with 3 storm ravens won the game before his opponent got a chance to play.
Game 5 was apocalypse, I get to play again against Richard ( dark angels) and with Ben ( grey knights) my partner was Steve with Grey knights
my list was
steve had drako 2 units of paladins 2 dreadknighs.
I this game I did all the dirty work and took the risks. We get to nominate one 1 units as infiltrating and Steve already had one unit of paladins outflanking so i let him have the other. Then he did not want to come in on turn 1 but turn 2 so I had to deep strike my own stuff. If you see both my pods are not the assaulting type because I wanted a locator beacon. You see we played on 2 boards split uo into 3 sections out deployment zone theirs and no mans land in the middle if you deep strike into their area then you automatically suffer a mishap.
So I placed my pod on the edge on no mans land and their deployment zone. Having in front of me some scenery, that would prevent me from going into their area and it did. But it was not over yet, they had a predator with the interceptor rule (they get to shoot at 1 deep striking unit per turn) if they did explode my pod i would lose my dread also. Thankfully he failed to glance. Drop pod came out and shoot that predator to pieces. 2 units of terminators landed close and ran to open up.
on their turn grey knight terminators and marines deep strike into no mans land. an assassin popped out from my terminators I did an amazing number of saves losing only 1 terminator in each unit.
Then the 1 unit of terminators got assaulted by assault marines, big mistake, i broke them and consolidated even closer to his objective. One of their assassins destroyed the shield and halo of my terminator captain.
On our turn 2 marines jumped out of the rhino and shot the assassin to pieces. Steve’s 2 paladins showed up and shoot down the other 2 assassins. The Damocles rhino did its orbital bombardment and killed 7 grey knights (it would have been 9 but they stoped my null zone).The dreadnaught blew up their bastion. My terminators destroyed 5 marines in combat and now were next to Azreal and 5 tactical contesting the objective.
Eventualy my terminators did die but steves grey knights were without a scratch finishing of Azreal and taking out 2 vindicators. on the other hand Ben deep striked his other squad of grey knights on our deployment zone to take out the democles rhino which he did in 3 turns. they never got to get back into combat because my vanguard killed his librarian and the terminator left. Bens dread knight destroyed my iron clad but was on 1 wound easy for steve to finish of. Azreal was dead and we had control of the objectives so we won!
Mvp of the last game has to be my Damocles with the terminators 2nd.
Dont get me wrong my terminators took an insane amount of punishment and the lasted more than expected.
But the Damocles it allowed me to reroll a mishap in in every game used. it killed 7 terminators and distracted a whole unit of grey knight marines. That’s more than 400p for an exchange of 60. 600 if you consider the mishap.
Thanks for reading if you got this far well done. Now I have promised my girlfriend one month of no war hammer to make up for the week I closed my self in my room and painted.
Badab War Part two they say will take place next year and it will include other races. Hopefully the fire hawks will be there with new tactics and painted vehicles!

Lias sabotazed the vindicator making it immobilized.
The master of the forge bolstered the defenses of the center piece of the ruins and with lias changing the combat tactics to stealth, my 2 devastator units inside the ruins had a 2+ cover save. lias and the master of the forge joined a devastator unit each. my librarian was in orbit with 8 sternguard. on one side spread out were 10 terminators on the other side 3 rhinos on my edges and a dreadnought. I play second.
turn one 1 lose 2 rhinos and 2 tacticals,
my turn stenguard come in and shoot done 5 terminators while my terminators reach his assault squad and ruin them. my tactical left takes down the vindicator. unfortunatly his 4 terminators and Azzrael reach Lias and cut him down. next turn though they will die from terminators and ironclad.
Later on all my sternguard die and the librarian is on his one nowere to hide from 2 lasscanons and a plasma cannon, so i decided to do gate of infinity on a clear area away from the range of his weapons. but I roll scater and double 3s and he gets sucked into the warp. I think I played that wrong. I should have moved and run and taken my chances Any way master of the forge lives and I score more killpoints so its a draw.

Steve had lots of ig, 2 units in chimeras with 2 brutes, 2 vendetas, 8 tanks? and 3 automated lascannons and 3 automated heavy bolter bs 2 twin linked, command squad 2 weapon teams.
I deploy all in one side (avoiding the side with the automated weapons ansd 5 tanks) sweap in and move to the middle scorring 12 kill ponts and slaying his hq with mine.


Game 3 seemed to be the hardest.
They have to put 3 rhinos/razorbacks in my deployment zone (12" from the board to win)
my opponent had mechanized lamenters. Well thought list, I liked it, he had 2 rhinos, 1 razor back, 2 ball, 1 vindicator, 1 predators, 1 land raider. That’s 8 vehicles.
And I think this was my weakest list. I would definitely rebuild this. Also in this scenario secessionists have 500p more than loyalists.

my deployment is: across the board: rhino dread lr iron clad devastators rhino
he decides to put them all on one side.
He also had a librarian in the land raider giving the vehicles +5 cover. Combined with his fast vehicles" move 12, shoot, then I need 6's to hit. We both rolled allot of 1s for armour penetration. I thought I rolled more1's. he disagreed. I disagreed that he rolled more 1's. Any way turn 2 my troop’s melta gun the 1 rhino to pieces while the other one gets blown up by a hunter killer missle. On his turn he decided to tank shock me with the third rhino and i blow it up. (i think that was a mistake, he should have stayed put and assaulted with his marines from the LR. which he did the next turn and slaughtered me.) I also did a mistake I should have probably ran with my devastators but instead I took a shoot at the side of the vindicator but failed again.
Next turn he puts the vehicles on the other side which was another mistake. Because I have my dread on that side and my rhino in the middle of the table while he had nothing.
Vindicator and predator were shooting at my rhino and dread while they were shooting at the rhinos.
Turn 5 I need to blow up 1 rhino to stop him from winning ( he could not blow up 3 vehicles even with 7 turns). multimelta penetrates and I get weapon destroyed!!!! the melta gun from the tactical fails! i charge the vehicle with the tactical and the dread 6s to hit the dread fails but the sergeant gets a hid and wreaks it. At that point my opponent conseded. We both forgot that he could simply try wipe me out. if we continued the game might have ended right after or the next turn on a 4 up. I had left 2 rhinos ( 1 would get assaulted and destroyed for sure from his tactical) 1 dreadnought 2 tactical marines left. We both did not think of that we ended it 2-1 objectives to me. hardest and most nerve racking game.
Lucky factor #2 been able to destroy a razzorback with a sergeant.
Game 4 was against mantis warriors
I was saying this was the easiest scenario for the loyalist. 2000p planet strike I need to blow up 3 teleporting pads armour 12. My opponent had 250p less than me. he had 2 LR 1 predator 2 dreadnaughts with auto canons, 2 tactical 5 terminators and a devastator squad.
My dream came true i get to play a game were death comes from above
in planet strike units that can deep strike normally can deep strike and assault.
also infantry that does not nomaly deep strike get to but cant assault.

Lucky fact #3
Having my worst luck on my easiest mission. Had this been any other game I would have lost.
Firestorm scaters.
5 terminators mishap and die
The vanguard mishap and go back in orbit.
Captain with 4 attacks auto hit needs 5 to penetrate fails or when he does he cant blow it up.
at least i took out the 2 lr turn 1.
Turn 2 see if the other terminators show up I need a roll of +2. I roll 1. I get to reroll because of the Damocles Rhino . 1 again.
Turn 3 I manage to blow up 2 pads and my terminators come in automatically but scatter on the building but this time with Damocles Rhino in game I can reroll the scatter they are ok and they assault the dreadnaught.
Turn 4 my opponent conceded. Oh while I have problems blowing up pads with hammers melta guns melta bombs my opponent manages to blow up my ironclad needing a 6 to penetrate and then rolls another 6. Good game though my bad luck made this massacre into a game. Elsewhere someone with 3 storm ravens won the game before his opponent got a chance to play.
Game 5 was apocalypse, I get to play again against Richard ( dark angels) and with Ben ( grey knights) my partner was Steve with Grey knights

steve had drako 2 units of paladins 2 dreadknighs.
I this game I did all the dirty work and took the risks. We get to nominate one 1 units as infiltrating and Steve already had one unit of paladins outflanking so i let him have the other. Then he did not want to come in on turn 1 but turn 2 so I had to deep strike my own stuff. If you see both my pods are not the assaulting type because I wanted a locator beacon. You see we played on 2 boards split uo into 3 sections out deployment zone theirs and no mans land in the middle if you deep strike into their area then you automatically suffer a mishap.
So I placed my pod on the edge on no mans land and their deployment zone. Having in front of me some scenery, that would prevent me from going into their area and it did. But it was not over yet, they had a predator with the interceptor rule (they get to shoot at 1 deep striking unit per turn) if they did explode my pod i would lose my dread also. Thankfully he failed to glance. Drop pod came out and shoot that predator to pieces. 2 units of terminators landed close and ran to open up.
on their turn grey knight terminators and marines deep strike into no mans land. an assassin popped out from my terminators I did an amazing number of saves losing only 1 terminator in each unit.
Then the 1 unit of terminators got assaulted by assault marines, big mistake, i broke them and consolidated even closer to his objective. One of their assassins destroyed the shield and halo of my terminator captain.
On our turn 2 marines jumped out of the rhino and shot the assassin to pieces. Steve’s 2 paladins showed up and shoot down the other 2 assassins. The Damocles rhino did its orbital bombardment and killed 7 grey knights (it would have been 9 but they stoped my null zone).The dreadnaught blew up their bastion. My terminators destroyed 5 marines in combat and now were next to Azreal and 5 tactical contesting the objective.
Eventualy my terminators did die but steves grey knights were without a scratch finishing of Azreal and taking out 2 vindicators. on the other hand Ben deep striked his other squad of grey knights on our deployment zone to take out the democles rhino which he did in 3 turns. they never got to get back into combat because my vanguard killed his librarian and the terminator left. Bens dread knight destroyed my iron clad but was on 1 wound easy for steve to finish of. Azreal was dead and we had control of the objectives so we won!
Mvp of the last game has to be my Damocles with the terminators 2nd.
Dont get me wrong my terminators took an insane amount of punishment and the lasted more than expected.
But the Damocles it allowed me to reroll a mishap in in every game used. it killed 7 terminators and distracted a whole unit of grey knight marines. That’s more than 400p for an exchange of 60. 600 if you consider the mishap.

Badab War Part two they say will take place next year and it will include other races. Hopefully the fire hawks will be there with new tactics and painted vehicles!
